O Great Mystery. The First Meditiation on Christmas

O great mystery, and wonderful sacrament, that animals should see the new-born Lord, lying in a manger!Blessed is the Virgin whose womb was worthy to bear Christ the Lord.Alleluia!

The Great Mystery. Christ, came to us not triumphantly, but as a little baby, in a manger. All Creation was uniquely aware of this event.

Ive always like this text..not because I have always like Victoria… but because the text comes from a time where we again… thought on a higher level. Less about the Material (which Christmas has become), and more about the Etherial.

The Incarnation and Nativity extend outside time and space. God is truly with us at this point. Not in some temple or heaven.. but he walks amongst us.

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

Why its important Mary didnt know everything.. A Psuedo Rant

NO she didnt know. Not everything – To one point, she didnt need to know, because the virtue of Mary’s Fiat, her yes..was that she trusted unwaveringly.

So the people that get butthurt over this, your theology is weak. its the fact SHE DIDNT KNOW and still trusted God, that makes it evident she is favored above all other Creation.

She didnt know… and would find out her Son would be killed at some point in His life.. when he was barely even a month old. She found out all of this After His Birth..and she still was unwavering. In fact the scriptures describe here as being disturbed over this, as any mother would be

I think its very poor theology to insist she knew everything – That’s treading into the so called “Marian Worship” which we do not of course as Catholics partake in

Rather… she was Human…just like any of us. What makes Mary Different is her Quality leading up to that point (her immaculate conception), and her unwavering “Yes”. That Choice loses something if we psuedo deify her into having some sort of omniscience.

Addendum in 2019 – Catholics – Stop lambasting this song, please. For one, we have deeper theological issues to address right now mainly in Rome,  but more importantly, getting upset over this song, and calling it heresy…when if nothing else it re enforces both Mary’s humanity and her ability to CHOOSE  (which is essential to what was professed at Ephesus about the Theo Tokos) is counter productive

#EndofRant  (I havent thrown that one out in a while 🙂  )

Day 1 Day two, The O antiphons are upon Us!

Every moOAntiphonsment of time is ordered according to God. So Holy Mother Church has always followed that order. Its jewel in the west has always been that of Gregorian Chant, and specifically, the Order of the Mass, The Order of the Office, and so forth. Things to give the day purpose, rhythm, things that keep our gaze fixated on the Prize.

When one Celebrates Mass, or does the Daily office, one usually recites (or sings) an Antiphon, or Something that more or less hits home with the readings of the day. The last
days of Advent are a time just like that, but with a Joyful anticipation that we are not meant to completely understand or grasp. These have affectionately been classified as the “O Antiphons”,  As each one, over the next 7 days will begin with ….You guessed it “Oh” this, that or the other. They All point to understandings of the messiah. They dont specifically call him by name, because honestly, how does one describe the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords… simply with words?

I sadly…missed the First O Antiphon… as its 1:07 on Dec 18 as I am writing this – So Well Do the Two, Who Call to mind both the Eternal Holy Wisdom (The Hagia Sophia), And God as he manifested himself on Sinai, the Leader of the People, and giver of Law and order. Israel no longer is one nation, but all of us, those who call ourselves children of the One True God ; This Same God comes to us in the Person of His Son, in just a few short days

Trivia – See if you can figure out what “Hymn” (not the same as an antiphon) Came from these Texts, dated back past the 9th Century!

December 17

O Wisdom of our God Most High,

guiding creation with power and love:
come to teach us the path of knowledge!

December 18

O Leader of the House of Israel,
giver of the Law to Moses on Sinai:
come to rescue us with your mighty power!

See the Spoiler Below 🙂  ‘

O come, thou Wisdom from on high,
who orderest all things mightily;
to us the path of knowledge show,
and teach us in her ways to go.

O come, O come, great Lord of might,
who to thy tribes on Sinai’s height
in ancient times once gave the law
in cloud and majesty and awe.

Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel, Shall come to you Oh Israel!

One More thing, Riu to the Chiu

Great song for this Sunday of advent coming up

Riu Riu Chiu

Riu, riu, chiu
The river bank is protected
God has kept the wolf
From our ewe lamb
God has kept the wolf
From our ewe lamb

The rabid wolf
Wanted to bite her
But Almighty God
Knew how to defend her
He willed to make her
Unable to sin
Even original sin
This virgin did not have

Riu, riu, chiu…

The one who is born
Is the Great Monarch
Christ the Patriarch
Clothed in flesh
He has redeemed us
By making himself small
Though he was infinite
He became finite

Riu, riu, chiu…

He comes to give
Life to the dead
He comes to repair
The fall of all mankind
This Child
Is the light of day
He is the Lamb
Of whom St. John spoke

Riu, riu, chiu…

I saw a thousand Angels
Who were singing
Flying around
Chanting in a thousand voices
Saying to the shepherds
Glory in Heaven
And peace on earth
For Jesus is born

Riu, riu, chiu…

Now we have
What we desire
Let us go together
To present him gifts
Let us all give him
Our will
For he came
As our equal

Faith in times of need

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11 -1

Lately, lets face it, our world has gotten pretty dark. Or maybe its that we simply haven’t been a light as much as we could. Either way, we certainly find ourselves in hard times. The News is Depressing. You walk down the street its depressing. I can remember more death, destruction, and suffering then not in the past 15 years, whether its foreign or domestic. Seems like very time you turn around, there is a shooting, either massive or singular.

Its times like these… that something like the Advent season, the period where we prepare for Christmas, can help us regain focus. In the Beginning of John’s gospel, we hear about the light that was coming into the world (John in general…likes to talk about “Light” and other symbols..alas I digress)

lanternThe true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.  John 1:9-13

Pretty Powerful stuff. John’s gospel is considered more “ethereal” in nature to the 3 synoptic Gospels. John definitely was more concerned with the Meta Physical as is evidence by this line.  He sees sin and ignorance for what they were then, and what they are now, that being a darkness of understanding. Christ is the Light the illuminates our hearts, our minds, and our lives.

Iolgts fitting that Im writing this close to 2 wonderful feasts of “illumination” , Most near, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (in which that event helped shape Christianity in Latin America, before they were mostly pagan); And That of Guadete Sunday or the Third Sunday of Advent, where the Candle for the weekend is Pink, signifying a rejoicing anticipation, for whats to come. Even the Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we see she is with Child, a sign of hope, and that Child and her make her more brilliant then even the sun, the source of light.

Am I worried about the world? Yes, I have compassion for my fellow creations. Am I worried about the outcome of the world? No. In the end we win. In the End, just like before Jesus is coming. IN The End, all is made right, and in the end, the only thing that keeps me moving there.. and not into despair is Faith.

That faith can allow myself, or anyone to be a Light to the World. We like John the Baptist can become a Herald of Messiah’s name, by our Hope, Prayer, and Love for one another. Keep Praying, Keep Hoping, and take comfort. For if there is one thing the Coming Christmas should remind us, is that there is hope, when we have faith.

Thoughts on… well Everything..

Lately I have really been considering how people react to people, places, situations. I as an IT person work in a very demanding field, one that is constantly changing.

Couple that with a company that right now is in the process of being acquired by another, and you have a very stress filled environment. In this situation, its important for me to try to keep my head about me. Sometimes that works… and sometimes it doesn’t. But I do my best to try to react after thinking. Most times I get that part right. Sometimes I still fail, but I try.

Often times conflicts escalate because something  is either innocently or not said or done, and the other part reacts harshly. World War I, was began over the Arch Duke being murdered. World War II.. was because of a people who were beaten.. taking whatever answer was the best for them. Korea…Vietnam..  We had to stop the rise of communism… I can go on and on.

Fast Forward a few decades. September 11, 2001. Tragic loss of life. Began because one group was reacting harshly to our policies in the lands some of them called home.  Were they right? No. Were we justified in our pursuit of Iraq.. Afghanistan.. and other areas? No. We devastated complete regions to find a handful of people.

I wish I could say..  that there could have been a better solution, but I cant. Anger only breeds more anger.. and that only ultimately leads to violence. Violence, leads to destruction.

Over the Past week we have had 3 major Shootings. All have been because of rash decisions, that didnt end up well. Innocent lives were lost in the process, because someone decided to take justice into their own hands. Lives were lost, because of a foolish knee jerk reaction.

Certainly a place like Planned parenthood is a place of injustice. Innocent lives are lost there constantly, all under the guise of “Choice” . But those workers.. many are innocent. As much as we who supposedly follow the  “Way” want to protest they aren’t, the harsh reality is, many don’t understand the situation they got themselves in. Yet we judge, and some of us, quite harshly. We rightly get angry at the situation, but we project that anger at the wrong target because of our passion.

A Certain presidential Candidate… (I dont need to do him any justice by mentioning his name), has said not only do we need to deal with the bad people (ISIS), but we need to deal with their families as well – Again, we have a knee jerk reaction to a very complex problem, and this thought process is indicative of us being mad at a few..and projecting it on everyone associated.

We like to go to extremes in this country. Its not enough to preserve a fundamental right to defend ourselves. We cant just have one gun… or ability to own. We have to have any gun we choose. This has created a gun culture out of this world.

Are there people who legitimately can deal with the responsibility? Yes.. But they are far out weighed by people who are completely governed by their emotions. Those get in the way often more then not.

So thats why I picked the above passage to reflect on. When we are patient… we get all the details to a problem first. We consider all the possibilities  – Is this the person I should be mad at – Are they innocent.. are they guilty. Will our actions actually help the situation…Or, do we just create folly.

May God Grant us the Wisdom to know the difference.
